England 0 – 0 Northern Ireland 05/09/25 World Cup European Qualifying Section

In a majorly frustrating game for both sides, England could only manage a nil nil draw with Northern Ireland. For whatever reason, England just couldn’t get any fluency into their game today. They created enough chances, but never really looked like taking them. Things were made worse for England when both Rob Tomkins and Graham Brock were taken off with injuries. Tomkins injury was eventually forced to withdraw from the squad with a sports hernia. Everyone was relieved that they hadn’t lost this game when the referee blew the final whistle.

Estonia 0 – 5 England 09/09/25 World Cup European Qualifying Section

This provided some light relief for Englad after their draw against Northern Ireland. They were under pressure to make a good start to continue their good form and Leo Triantafyllidis made sure they did as he nodded home inside the first minute. And when Gary Kershaw scored his third goal for England after five minutes, the win never looked in doubt. Triantafyllidis completed his hattrick before half-time and England were cruising. Anthony Bell made his debut as a half time substitution for Triantafyllidis and crowned a good debut by snaffling the fifth goal. England cruised to the finish line and seal a five nothing win and remain three points behind Northern Ireland in group 8

Blackburn Rovers 2 – 2 Manchester United 13/09/25 Premier Division

Another strangely tough day for Martyn Moody as he watched his side draw 2-2 with Blackburn Rovers. Thanks to international injuries, he was forced to make a couple of changes to the side, with Eric Malone, Ben Wynne, Noam Salomon, Paul Sergeant, Aaron Ashton and Sean Ritchie coming into the side. Blackburn set out from the off not to be pushovers and thats what they proved. However it was Man Utd and Gareth Townsend that gained the lead for the league leaders. But it wasn’t to0 last long, as Vaclav Cerny equalised from the edge of the box. Thereafter, it was a game that swung both ways. Both sides had chances but both sides squandered them. A minute before half time, Triantafyllidis was taken off through injury (later shown to be minor). On 59 minutes, Noam Salomon clattered Neil Greer in the box. Penalty! Greer picked himself up and converted the penalty. 2-1 to Blackburn. However, Gareth Townsend topped a crazy two minutes by pulling Man Utd back into the game by scoring to make it 2-2. Once again, the game swung both ways and both sides created good chances. But that was the end of the scoring for this game. The only other event of note was Noam Salomon being carried off in the last minute with a hernia.

Academica 0 – 4 Manchester United 16/09/25 Champions League Group B

Manchester United started the defence of their Champions League Trophy in style by beating Academica in Portugal. The game was noteworthy for Graham Brock finally scoring his first goals of the season. Triantafyllidis shook off whatever knock he sustained in the previous game to open the scoring after 25 minutes. United had created several chances before that point but hadn’t look lik taking them. It took them just fve minutes to double their lead, as Paul Sergeant swept in the ball from a rebound after a corner. Right on half time, Brock collected a long ball from Stuart Cameron and rolled the ball round the keeper and was away and celebrating. It was his first goal of the season and you could see the relief on his face. Things got better for Brock when after an hour, Carter curled a shot at goal, which the goalkeeper managed to parry straight to Brock who volleyed it in. That completed the scoring for the champions and they played out the rest of the game in a professional manner and started their defence well.

Manchester United 8 – 0 Leeds 21/09/25 Premier Division

In the Roses Derby, Man Utd claimed the spoils in style by beating Leeds by eight goals. Things started badly for Leeds when Huw Delicate put Man Utd in front after just seven minutes. Then it became the Gareth Townsend show. He scored in the 12th, 33rd, 35th and 41st minutes of the game and really put Man Utd on the front foot. After half time, the procession continued. Paul Sergeant scored just after the hour mark when Aaron Nugent attempted a wayward shot and Sergeant nodded the ball into the empty net. Finally in the last ten minutes, Fraser Alston clipped the ball past Cillessen and then David Collins fired the ball into the top corner to complete a rout.

Manchester Untied 8 – 0 Wycombe Wanders 24/09/25 Capital One Cup 3rd Round

In a side that boasted 11 changes, Man Utd eased into the 4th round after an empathic win against Wycombe. Man Utd found themselves 5-0 up after just 15 minutes. Not to bore people with details, but in that first 15 minutes, Darren Davison scored a hattrick, Kevin Craig and Aaron Ashton all netted within the first fifteen minutes. Wycombe really didn’t deserve it, but they were just being thoroughly outclassed. Interestingly, Man Utd had two debutants in this game. John Maloney started down the left hand side and Darcy Parry came off the bench and both played well. In the second half, Davison added another goal, both Paul Palfreyman and Ben Wynne scored from corners to complete a satisfactory evening for Man Utd and send Wycombe home licking their wounds.

Huddersfield Town 0 – 2 Manchester United 27/09/25 Premier Division

After another 11 changes for Man Utd, they had another comfortable win against Huddersfield Town. However, the amount of changes led to a disjointed performance in this match. It started well enough with Gareth Townsend giving them the lead after just two minutes following the aftermath of a corner. Huw Delicate had a header saved and Townsend was there to snaffle the rebound. Between then and half time, Man Utd looked lethargic. They struggled to create clear chances, they even struggled to get shots away and keep the ball. At half time, a few words were exchanged, and Man Utd looked better. However they could only add one goal to their tally. Gareth Townsend once again had a shot on goal, keeper walton pushed it away and Leo Triantafyllidis poked the rebound into the net. And that, as they say, was that.
